The joy of missing out
What? – JOMO is the abbreviation for “Joy of Missing Out” and describes the feeling of happiness that comes from consciously forgoing social activities or digital connections in order to enjoy the moment and focus on one’s own needs.
Where from? – Anyone who wants to understand JOMO has to start with FOMO. “Fear of Missing Out” – the fear of missing something – shaped the 2010s and describes the feeling of missing out on important experiences or opportunities. JOMO is the conscious counter-movement to this.
How? – The joy of consciously declining invitations or trends, taking breaks or being offline: JOMO makes it possible to once again find one’s own rhythm.
Who? – An evening without social media, a walk alone, a deliberately free day in the calendar: people who consciously do without constant availability and obligations are often more content, more balanced and more creative.
Why? – Constant sensory overload creates stress, comparison and the feeling of never doing enough. Those who consciously say “no” activate rest and recovery mechanisms in the brain. JOMO helps to protect one’s own energy balance.
